A Gender Recognition Experiment on the CASIA Gait Database Dealing with Its Imbalanced Nature
نویسندگان
چکیده
The CASIA Gait Database is one of the most used benchmarks for gait analysis among the few non-smallsize datasets available. It is composed of gait sequences of 124 subjects, which are unequally distributed, comprising 31 women and 93 men. This imbalanced situation could correspond to some real contexts where men are in the majority, for example, a sports stadium or a factory. Learning from imbalanced scenarios usually requires suitable methodologies and performance metrics capable of managing and explaining biased results. Nevertheless, most of the reported experiments using the CASIA Gait Database in gender recognition tasks limit their analysis to global results obtained from reduced subsets, thus avoiding having to deal with the original setting. This paper uses a methodology to gain an insight into the discriminative capacity of the whole CASIA Gait Database for gender recognition under its imbalanced condition. The classification results are expected to be more reliable than those reported in previous papers.

Human Gait as the recognition object is the famous biometrics system recently. Many researchers had focused this issue to consider for a new recognition system. One of the important advantage in this recognition compare to other is it does not require observed subject’s attention and assistance. There are many human gait datasets created within the last 10 years. Some databases that widely used...

متن کاملGender Recognition Based on Gait Using Multi-View Fusion
Considering the problem of gait based gender recognition when gait information can be acquired from multiple views, this paper presents a detailed analysis on how to combine different views and proposes a fusion method derived from Bayesian theory. For feature extraction, a spatio-temporal gait representation is adopted and improved to reduce data redundancies. Then the class separability of ea...
متن کاملA Comparative Study of Gender and Age Classification in Speech Signals
Accurate gender classification is useful in speech and speaker recognition as well as speech emotion classification, because a better performance has been reported when separate acoustic models are employed for males and females. Gender classification is also apparent in face recognition, video summarization, human-robot interaction, etc. Although gender classification is rather mature in a...
